Gathered In

Come, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of Harvest-home;
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin.

Henry Alford
1844

I like simple things for a Harvest Home. Even nature seems to make it easier to do as Louise B. Fisher observed in her book a half-century ago when she asserted that "It is fortunate that both fruit and flowers have, at this season, a more lasting quality. Autumn flowers have more stamina than the fugitive flowers of midsummer and this allows me time to complete the harvest...."

 I think she's right. Last week's mums still look fresh in the vase, and my edible pumpkin bouquet is still doing fine alongside its dried baby's breath garnish!

 For some of us, gathering in seems to be going on all the time!

But the season invites more of a life of the mind, socializing and discussing with friends, and built-in holidays for celebrating with family.

A simple harvest home is about tradition, and filling cups and glasses. A good soup on the stove. Bread in the oven.

                 I hope you're enjoying your Harvest Home!
 Thanks for stopping by!
Ciao! for now!
