So many conversations in a vintage shop start with "My grandmother had one of those." And of all seasons, summer seems to evoke the most memories of the past. For me, vintage linens in particular make up the fabric of the season. From cozy colorful quilts, to cheery printed tablecloths, to soft and worn striped kitchen towels, each seems to carry in its very fiber the essence of the family farm, an old lake house, or the slap of the kitchen screen door. So I've gathered up some of my favorite images to share in a montage of a vintage summer.
Give me a lazy hot weekend afternoon and I'm transported to another time filled with juicy memories of watermelon and lemonade. To this day I prefer a charred hot dog to one cooked to perfection.
The buzzing of bees. Flies humming. A trickle of water from a stream or a hose. The crack of a croquet mallet hitting a wooden ball. It's time to gather up the vintage threads of summer. . . .
My thing happens to be textiles. What triggers the ideal summer for you? I'd love to hear. I know so many of you still have rain and cold, but we've had the most blissful June weather we could ever hope for. And it's brought a flood of happy memories back for me. Our busy travel and visiting hasn't quite started yet, so there's been time just to BE. What a gift! I hope you get a bit of that time too. Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello!
